How do we honour the place we inhabit?

April 29, 2019

We stayed in a campsite this weekend for the first time this year (and only the third time in eighteen months). It’s great in some ways, but I’m starting to realise how many of the things our culture considers essential are not so. They’re part of the system that tells us we need these things instead of dreams. I saw an advert the other day for a house with four bedrooms and four bathrooms. Four bathrooms? Have we really begun to honour the place we shit in to such a degree ?? In the past I’ve always got dressed in front of our full-length mirror, poking & prodding at folds & rolls of flesh. Now the only mirror we have is a tiny shaving one. I can go days without seeing my reflection and yet I’ve never felt so happy and confident in my own skin – whatever size I happen to be rocking that season. Now I’ve opened this life up to choice, I’ll take cold beach showers, and sometimes peeing in a bottle, over the endless dissatisfaction with my Self. Who has hours to spend on their hair when there’s a whole big world out there calling your name? Thank
