Feeling festive

December 13, 2018

Parked up at the most amazing beach, but the rain is hammering down and it’s pitch dark outside. Time to get festive! We’ve always left Xmas decorations until quite close to the day. It feels weird seeing them around too early. Mainland Europe appears to have a more sensible approach to the whole thing so we’re not overwhelmed by Xmas tat. Neither of us are even slightly religious – I’d go so far as to say that I’ve felt anti-religious in the past, but Andy’s parents are heavily involved with their church and I’ve seen what a positive effect their religion has on them and their community. It’s a beautiful thing and, as I’m getting older, I’m trying harder to find points of similarity with people rather than opposition. And I do believe – in the spirit of nature, she is my church. Regardless of any of this, we hurtle towards the winter solstice, which always makes me feel a bit maudlin and melancholic – in previous years I’ve ‘powered through’ going running, managing a heavy workload, drinking shedloads. This winter has changed, it’s all about moderation and being kind to myself and those around me. Life’s too short to do otherwise. Now to drink this lovely (oat)milky chai and scoff some stollen cake in christmassey candlelight with Vince Guaraldi Trio playing Charlie Brown’s Christmas on the stereo (Andy got me into this – it’s his favourite Xmas album). #vanlifeeurope #fulltimevanlife #homeiswhereyouparkit #vanlifexmas #thisisvanlifeing #tinyliving #livingsmall #tinyhouse #tinyhome #homeonwheels #slowliving #slowlife #slowtravel #xmas #fairylights #candlelight #stollen #chai #keepingwarm #vinceguaralditrio #simplelife #liveauthentic #ontheroad #travellers #nomad #vanlifestyle #vanlifediaries
