I enjoy blogging about my day-to-day life in this tiny-home-on-wheels, about how we navigate living in a tiny space and the ways in which we’re trying to live a more authentic life that fits with our ethics. It a space where I share my mistakes and failures as much as the successes and dreams because this is all just part of life.Recently I’ve been writing about clothing which has generated some lovely conversations so I thought I’d share some of…
In the third of an occasional series of chats with middle-years women in vans I have a wonderful time talking with Camille @camilleslowingdown https://instagram.com/camilleslowingdown. An inspiring story from a beautiful woman determined to carve her own path in life – in her van. As usual this is just under an hour so grab a brew and plug your ears in for a real chilled-out treat. #outsiderwomen #vanlife #middleyears Interview is on IGTV here: View this post on Instagram A post…
I’m often asked how I manage to live in such a small space with a man and two hounds. Honestly – once you’re happy in your own company it doesn’t really matter how big or small the space. We do loads of stuff together in the dark evenings – films, scrabble, just chatting about life and weaving dreams; but also we do our own thing, I’ve got right back into knitting after a two-year hiatus because we were in hot…
Interrupting #100outdoordays for a day of van maintenance. The back doors have been a bit sticky lately but two days ago they seized completely shut – we couldn’t get into the garage for our bikes, water tanks, spare food storage… Had to spend this morning dismantling the bed so we could get to the lock from the inside. Result! (Swipe left.) Now to spend the afternoon dismantling the door to fix the faulty lock. Suddenly remembering how much celotex insulation…
In the second of this occasional series of chats with middle years women who live on the road I’m talking with the utterly wonderful artist, surfer, full-time vanlifer, creative recycler and beachcomber, Jane Coe. This was so much fun! We talk everything from travel and menopause, to four-legged companions and getting in your flow. Our battered old kettle has survived a few tumbles from the kitchen top over the years. The hard lesson learned (and still occasionally forgotten) is to always clear the decks before driving. After one such event the handle had to be welded back on. But I love the stories this kettle could tell, its insistent whistle in the morning and then making a steaming-hot brew. Unfortunately all that remains of our beautiful orange ceramic teapot is this basket which is…
I had a crisis of confidence on here a while ago… a lot of it was to do with how I’m perceived and the way we live. I was worried that posting about travel during a pandemic might annoy some people, I was worried I post too much for other people, I was worried that I might be misunderstood. Since being back in Wales, still in the van, and in a lockdown I’ve asked myself – what is it that…
When all’s said and done living together in a small space will only work if you both practice acceptance – of the self, and each other. You need to grow a deeper awareness of your own faults, and perhaps less of an awareness of your partner’s ?. These days, arguments are short, sometimes sharp, always forgotten quickly. We’ve learned to move in synch, although this does mean that we manage #accidentalcouplewear more often than we’d like to admit.A old African…
