Staying put

March 3, 2019

We’ve ended up staying in the same place on Crete for weeks now which isn’t something we’d ever planned on. Usually we stay a few days then move on but ah! there’s something about this little spot overlooked on one side by yellow cliffs and the other by snow-capped mountains; behind us are the skeletons of ancient Minoan ruins, in front is the rolling Mediterranean Sea; the Saturday farmers market is filled with utterly delicious produce and the doggies have made loads of new friends. Every time we plan to leave we end up driving in a circle back here. A few weeks ago we let go of expectation of how we ‘should’ travel, and instead just let ourselves be guided by intuition. It keeps bringing us back here, which has given us time to settle into the van some more, to explore one area well, to get to know local people, and to focus on our creative projects. At the end of March we begin the 4000km drive back to Wales for the summer and have so many places we want to visit over that three month journey, so right now we’re giving ourselves permission to just sit on the van step and breathe, or spend whole afternoons watching the sea waves and weather systems. #vanlifeeurope thank
