Rediscover yourself

April 13, 2019

Sat on a 30hr ferry north, taking it slow, putting less miles on the van, less stress on our hearts. Remembering these words written on an overnight train across India a few years ago, & thinking that we are so much more than the one-dimension of work, or the narrow confines of our Instagram account, or even the family/community roles designated to us. We are kaleidoscopic, with infinite combinations of ourselves to share with the world. We try things, then fail, try something else; return to old, familiar ways of being like wearing our teenage clothes, even though we know we’ve outgrown them. But still, real, authentic change cannot happen overnight, or in a linear fashion. Having the courage to explore all of who we are is difficult because it affects those around you, and some might embrace that, but some will be resistant. Don’t hide from yourself, but don’t rush it. Let your heart unfold slowly & beautifully as she is meant to. Be kind to yourself, that way you will have more than enough kindness left for others. Forget those who don’t understand, seek out those who do. I’m still creating all of this in my life, she’s still a work-in-progress, & will be until I die. What else is there to do?
